Ring of Honor 9/27

Tonight…it’s a 6 man tag match with the House of Truth and Roderick Strong taking on Christopher Daniels and the Briscoe Brothers, live from the home of extreme wrestling, Philadelphia PA!

Match #1 The Super Smash Brothers (Player Uno and Player Dos) vs The Kings of Wrestling (Claudio Castignoli and Chris Hero).

Another appearance by the Super Smash Bros.! Kings of Wrestling come out and shake each others hand before the match. Chris Hero and Player Dos start off the action. Hero has never looked better, his ring work has really improved since teaming up with Castignoli. Couple of nice exchanges by these two…The Smash Brothers look impressive once again. The announcer makes mention that Castignoli is the “strongest man in Ring of Honor” and his deadlift gutwrench suplex followed by a gorilla press slam on big, fat Player Uno is evidence of that. Impressive. In the end, we get a nice burst of offense off the hot tag from Player Dos but it’s not enough. The Kings are just too strong. Superplex/Moonsault combo seals the win for the Kings.

Up next is a recap of the title match at Glory by Honor between Haas & Benjamin and The Kings of Wrestling. During this interview, Shelton looks especially awkward. It’s like he can’t make eye contact with the camera.

Match #2 Rachel Summerlynn vs Daizee Haze

Stout blond bombshell Summerlynn must outweigh Daizee by 40 lbs. Nice match but Summerlynns inexperience is evident and I have to question the booking as the physical disparity between the two makes for a somewhat stilted match. Gory Special by Summerlynn looks like it should have killed Haze, but somehow she’s up and delivers a German suplex on her much larger opponent. Nice finish. Not sure how Daizee got her up like that….

In the back we have an nice promo by Christopher Daniels, who was always pretty good with the mic. He says that since Truth Martini arrived, Roderick strong has been a changed man, changed for the worse. Good one. Next up are the Briscoes. I would not want to fight the Briscoes. They look like semi-retarded home invaders. They mumble something about drinking beers with Roderick Strong. I highly doubt he's hanging out with these two degenerates in real life. Should be entertaining tonight...

Next is a brief recap of the Kevin Steen/El Generico feud. During this recap they cut away to highlights of their match at Glory by Honor and during a suicide dive shot we clearly have Ryan peeping in the back. Well done, sir, you got on TV! Steen cuts a promo where he does his best "crazy guy" and talks to Genericos mask, saying things about how he was ugly and sick underneath the mask and how he killed Generico and saved the world. I am a BIG Kevin Steen fan but he's gonna have to work on being a heel because he is getting very little heat and his scruffy teddy bear look is not doing him any favors. Samoa Joe he is not. Shave your head or something, dude!

Next week is a "pick your poison" match were basically Steen and Generico get to book each others matches. Generico gets Davey Richards in 2 weeks which should be entertaining.

Match #3- Steve Corino vs Purple Tights (they actually call him that, he's some jobber who got his intro cut short by Kevin Steen)

Steen does commentary on a live mic throughout the match, I'm sure it's meant to be funny but it is actually pretty annoying; he's just not really that funny. It comes off as forced. Corino basically just takes it to the jobber: at one point he puts him in an abdominal stretch and pokes his thumb up his ass three times. Ouch. There is almost no heat on this match and it's dead quiet. Which is too bad because Corino looks great. They are going to have to do something crazy to get the crowd into Steen and Corino as major heels. Corino pins Purple Tights and goes to jab him with a fork but Colt Cabana comes out for the save. Corino dares Cabana to get in the ring and Generico runs out. All four men stand off and I am already bored with this feud.

Interview with the House of Truth and Roderick Strong. Truth Martini does a little piece about he's the only truth in wrestling blah blah. His voice is really weird; not anything like you'd think it would sound by looking at him. Kinda like Sylvester Stallone crossed with Randy Savage.

Match #4- The House of Truth with Roderick Strong vs Christopher Daniels and the Briscoe Brothers.

First, let me just say that the House of Truth is growing on me. I especially like Josh Raymond's work and he and Christian Able have really good chemistry. In any event this was a pretty good match with alot of back and forth action; classic tag team shit. High points of the match were Mark Briscoe's ridiculous moonsault from the top rope to the floor just narrowly missing the railing. He did it with absolutely no hesitation, too, which makes it all the more crazy. Dude that big should not be pulling off that move. Josh Raymond also pulled off a shooting star press to a standing opponent; never seen that before. Match ends when Truth Martini trips Chris Daniels and allows Roderick Strong to get the Gutbuster. This isn't over, House of Truth!!

Ring of Honor 9/21/2010

Little recap of the A Double/Delirious feud. Tonight it ends...in a steel cage!

Match #1 The Embassy (Necrobutcher and Erick Stevens ft Prince NaNa) vs The Dark City Fight Club (Jon Davis and Kory Chavous). Great in ring promo by NaNa opens with "You stupid bums!" pretty much all you need to hear. I cannot get over how old and crusty "The Crown Jewel" Necrobutcher looks. Evidently, Necro needed to feed his family so he made a pact with the devil in Prince NaNa and joined the Embassy. Not a lot of big spots in this one...DCFC are pretty raw. Mostly the Embassy dominating. Chavous gets "Gonorrhea" from Erick Stevens (worst finishing move name ever, by the way) and its a big upset win for the Embassy. Yawn.

After a little recap from last weeks lumberjack match, its a promo from Austin Aries. Pretty sraightforward stuff..."who's ever blood is spilled tonight is on your hands, Delirious". I'll actually be happy when this feud is over...Austin Ares should be being booked with some bigger names.

Match #2 Colt Cabana vs Jay Freddie (straight up jobber)
Colts lying down and no-selling all of Freddie's offense...this will be quick. Cabana locks in the Billy Goats curse and it's over in about 30 seconds. Steve Corino does the run in and tries to jab cabana with a fork but misses. Guess these two are going to start a program following their involvement with the Steen/Generico feud.

Next is a recap of Glory by honor IX from NYC. Was looking for our faces in the crowd but I couldn't see them. Looks as if Davey Richards, Chris Daniels and Homicide are the top three contenders to Roderick Strong's title.

Commercial break...HDNet has Dream? I might have to start watching that...

Recap of Davey Richards interview from last week. He was meant to be a wrestler, I guess. Mercifully edited WAY down.

Match #3 Sara Del Rey vs Taylor Hendrix
Hendrix is new...very chesty redhead. Del Rey comes out with The Kings of wrestling, as she is their queen. Del Rey proceeds to kick the living shit outta this poor girl and finishes her with a cross arm breaker. She might be the best woman technician I have ever seen. Good stuff. Great execution. Wow.

Side Note: I noticed The Kings theme music is "Ride of the Valkyries", the same classical piece that Bryan Danielson currently comes out to in the WWE. Could this be subtle tribute to ROH, perhaps?

More recapping this Austin Ares feud...

Match #4 Austin Ares vs Delirious in a steel cage
Delirious comes out. Holy shit, Daziee Haze is RIPPED. Ares comes out and scares children at ringside. Classic! Ares is after Daizee Haze but Delirious with the save. I'm liking this ROH steel cage because it's looks like they got it from Home Depot and put it together in 10 minutes. Pretty brutal. Good, solid work from both these guys...Ares can really go when he has to. Delirious is busted open by a dropkick to the back of the head into the cage. Austin working the face...gets in an old school back rake. Hooks in the Last Chancery but Delirious bites his way out. Delirious with a Cobra Suplex into the Cobra Stretch...but it's Kenny King and Rhett Titus out to the ring!! Both men retreat to the top of the cage, but as Ares tries to escape, it's the Cobra Clutch locked in! Great face by Ares and he taps out! Titus and King open up the cage door and put the beatdown on Delirious. Todd Sinclair tries to break it up and he goes down!! Love to see that. Ares oversees the beating and to the cameras says "Now...its over!" Good night, folks!

Ring of Honor 9/17/2010

I have not been keeping up my end of my blog responsibilites. So I'm here to make amends with 2 weeks worth of Ring of Honor on HD Net!

Opening last weeks show is Grizzly Redwood. A Double comes out an interrupts; he asks if Grizzly can help him out in tonight's lumberjack match seeing as he is the littlest lumberjack. Grizzly says he could never violate the lumberjack code. So A Double lays him out and says we all make choices and Delirious has to live with the choices he has made.

First match: Rhett Titus w/ Austin Aries vs Christopher Daniels. Aries is ringside smoking a pipe. Priceless! Pretty clean match...it looks like Rhett is being given a bigger roll, which is cool, because he's actually a pretty good wrestler. He does almost kill himself with a botched huracanrana mid-match. Aries tries to distract Daniels by lighting his pipe on the ring apron but it doesn't work. Daniels with the Best Moonsault Ever and its over.

Match #2: The House of Truth (Josh Reymond and Christian Abel) vs Ricky Reyes and Aiden Chambers (bums). Josh Reymond is really crusty...he looks like he should play guitar for the New York Dolls. Short match...House of Truth dominate and win

We have an interview with Davey Richards with Jim Cornett asking him if he's staying or going. Richards delivers a rambling shoot talking about his personal hardships. Very long story short: he met a girl, decides to stay, wrestling is in his blood. They must have thrown him a boatload of money because everything I read was that he was done. This is good because an argument could be made that he's now taken the "best in the world" title from Bryan Danielson.

Match #3 American Wolves (Richards and Eddie Edwards) vs the Super Smash Brothers (Player Uno and Player Dos). The Wolves are real professionals: they made the Smash Brothers look absolutely fantastic. Lotta big spots in this one, most by the Smash Brothers...moonsault off the apron, reverse huracanrana, couple cool tag team moves. Eddie Edwards eventually catches Player Uno with a single leg crab for the win. Nice match.

Match #4 Delirious vs Austin Aries in a lumberjack match
Pretty standard stuff from these two...nice chop exchange but as usual A Double leaves the ring ALOT. Eventually Rhett Titus has a run in and gives Austin the edge. Big throatbreaker and it's over. Lumberjacks are all brawling! We gotta go!!

Night Of Champions LIVE BLOG! (Part II)

Disco: AND WE'RE BACK. Undertaker comes out first, usual intro, but no druids. Kane comes out but doesn't even get a chance to finish his intro, Taker runs up the ramp and the match begins. A lot of kicking and punching. WWE has these pillars at the arena entrance, the brothers smash into them and a nice chunk of styrofoam chips off.

Biggs: This is what Ryan and I would call a "kick and punch spectacular".

Disco: Kane has a nice big cut on his shoulder. The boys are taking a nap in the corner near the announce booth. To be honest, they've moved around a lot of the arena and the camerawork is pretty good. But a lot of punches. Kane is dominating.

Biggs: Kane was born in Madrid Spain, and is 43. Resides in Knoxville, Tennessee! (Courtesy of Sprint EVO) Glen Jacobs and Mark Callaway trained together. Undertaker is only 45!?

Disco: Back in the ring now. After several minutes of chopping, Taker gives Kane a chokeslam, but Kane recovers and comes back with a Tombstone. KANE IS STILL THE WORLD'S CHAMPION.

Undertaker makes a long, staggering, lingering exit.

Disco: Orton interview. Has no comment.

Biggs: Everybody asks why I hate Randy Orton.

Disco: Why do you hate Randy Orton?

Biggs: No Charisma.

Biggs: I'm in!!

Santino!!

I can't get over the following:
1) why CM punk lost tonight
2) why Santino continues to be comic relief
3) how this tag team match is supposed to work. It's a disgrace to tag team wrestling

Disco: Now Mark Henry and Bourne are in vs. Cody Rohodes and Drew McIntyre. Terrible move, Rhodes fell down before Henry hit him. Evan Bourne attempts finisher off Henry's shoulders.

BIGGZ" Rhodes outfit is awful. he needs tights...maybe grey with gold accents. black boots.

WE HAVE A NEW CHAMPION! McIntyre & Rhodes take the tag team titles!

BIGGZ: Dos Caras Jr is pretty good. Latino heel is a good idea. Rey Mysterio feud could be epic

BIGGZ: Orten kills me because he is a cry baby and the word in the back is that he complains about everyones work.

BIGGZ: Either this is a 45 min match or this is ending early...general manager reveal, perhaps?
Man, they do pop for Cena...

DISCO: It's 10:10 and the Six Pack Elimination is starting now?

BIGGZ: One would think that Barrett would use his awarded match in a 6 man elimination match
Boo...I really hate Orten...and not in like a wrestling heat way...I hate his move set and his promos
Cena only weighs 245 lbs?

BIGGZ: What? Jericho out? How does that happen? Perhaps the rumors are true about his retirement

DISCO: There is a verrrrrry long pause in the match while Jericho slinks out... While the other guys nap quite a bit, it keeps coming back to Cena and Orton.

DISCO: Edge and Sheamus "join forces" to knock out the competition. They make a good team but eventually Edge is pinned by Cena. Wade Barrett wakes up and is back in the ring.

BIGGZ: Very few outcomes can be even remotely interesting now.....don't tap Shemus

BIGGZ: Sheamus does not tap

BIGGZ: Nexus is here king!! Barrett eliminates Cena!?! It's true

BIGGZZ: Please kill Orten...it looks like this is Ortens to lose

BIIGZ: the viper is ready...eliminates Barrett. BOOOO!!!!

BIGGZ: Orten kicks out of the brough kick

DISCO: Sheamus can't close the deal. Orton finishes with an RKO.

DISCO: WE HAVE A NEW CHAMPION! Randy Orton! Still 15+ minutes left though. Biggz wants to know -- where is the swerve?

DISCO: I expected Orton to win, but I fully expected Miz to come out with MIB and take the belt. Bummy.

BIGGZ: The swerve: I would have ended like this: Orton vs Shemus to end match. Jericho comes back out and hits Orton with chair. Sheamus wins, but gets RKO from Orton. Miz comes out and cashes money in the bank on Sheamus. This is good because:
1) Sheamus defending makes Sheamus look like a legitamate champion
2) Jericho vs Orton feud could give whole new meaning to "legend killer". If Jericho really want to retire this is a good way to do it and put someone over BIG
3) Sheamus vs Miz feud is great going forward and nobody ends the night looking weak

Night Of Champions LIVE BLOG! (Part I)

Disco: As I type, with 60 seconds to go before this PPV begins, Biggs is on the phone with his new content provider, Verizon FiOS. For an unknown reason we are unable to purchase the PPV. Please stand by.

Disco: 8:16 PM... the PPV is ON! I don't know why but it's suddenly on. We drop into the Kingston/Ziggler match. Vickie tries to interfere but Zigger explains he wants to do it "on his own." He does, finishing with a Kingston with a ZigZag. Vicky is somewhat somber... realizing that Ziggler doesn't need her cheatin' ways to win.

After a "Paper Jams" commercial, we cut to Edge being interviewed by Josh Matthews. Edge annoyed, confident he will win.

Disco: CM Punk comes out. Says he loves Chicago, crowd happy (Chicago is his hometown). Them CM Punk says he hates the people -- corrupt cops, fat teamsters, etc. The crowd is not happy. BIG BOO

Biggs: CM Punk has to win this, can't keeb jobbing to Big Show. CM Punk's career is on hold. Why? They could have Luke Gallows and Joey Mercury as a tag team. You could get them over by having them go after Punk... but not tonight.

Disco: Then Show punches Punk out and pins.

Biggs: Who does that help? What was the point of that?

Disco: A very short match.

Disco: Matthews interviews Jericho. Jericho extolls his virtues. Plans to "eliminate, eliminate, eliminate" because he is the "best at what I do". Announcers remind us that if Jericho loses tonight he plans on leaving the WWE.

Disco: MIZ/BRYAN... Miz comes in, cluching MIB suitcase, with Alex Riley. Riley has lost his High School gimmick, wearing white button-down.

Disco: Bryan comes in, people like him. There's a lot of talk about Gene LeBell and the LeBell lock, Bryan's finisher.

Biggs: (Prediction) Miz loses US Title, Jericho wins 6-Pack, Miz uses Money In Bank. Bryan is so over, a testament to WWE marketing.

Disco: Great match! Very technical, a LOT of spots and pins. Striker calls -- "the Crossface is locked in!", Cole calls it the LeBell....

Disco: WE HAVE A NEW CHAMPION! Daniel Bryan takes the US TITLE! Miz sobs against the ring apron as Bryan heads up the ramp.

Disco: Backstage interview with Cena. Cena reminds us that Edge is zero percent "R Rated"...""it's PG now folks."

Disco: Women's Unification match (Lumberjill). Not much to say. Divas. Michelle McCool has a neat outfit but with a lot of crucifixes. She's a serious Christian.

Disco: WE HAVE A NEW CHAMPION! While getting a vicious lumberjill beatdown, Layla sneaks in and kicks Melina in the face. McCool finishes Melina and wins the Diva Title.

Disco: Wade Barrett interview. Sees the match as his opportunity to change the WWE status quo.

Disco: Kane vs. Undertaker history video promo. Kane unmasking, etc. Some cool old footage. Same one they're showing on SD.

(Continue to part II)

'Cuz Disco Says So: Night Of Champions Predictions

Okay, I'm going to make this quick:

Divas and Women's Championship Unification Lumberjill Match: Melina. After WWE invested in creating that girlie "DIVA" belt, I can't see them letting McCool win. This way they bury the old belt and the title along with it. LayCool will have a falling out over the loss of the title... McCool goes solo and feuds with Melina while Layla becomes valet to NXT winner Kaval.

Big Show vs. CM Punk: What's happening here? Either Punk wins and regains some of his credibility, or Big Show wins (as usual, it seems) and the Straight Edge Society clique is over. I think (hope) that Punk wins and later his rookie Darren Young converts to the Straight Edge Lifestyle to give the SES some new life. Otherwise we won't be seeing Punk for a while, which is a shame.

Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston: Kofi. This feud has been going on too long, it's the logical conclusion after all the close matches. Also, Dolph's "failure" to defend the title will play into the Vicki/Kaitlyn/Dolph love triangle on NXT.

United States Champion The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan: Bryan. This could be a little premature. But... I think this sets up the Intercontinental title as a legitimate division (maybe even a classic TNA-style "X-Division") and you'll start seeing Husky Harris, Alex Riley, Kaval, et al., have a reason to exist. Miz will save face 'cuz he has that Money in the Bank which will come into play later in the night.

World Heavyweight Champion Kane vs. The Undertaker (No Holds Barred Match): Kane. The logical conclusion to this feud is a "Hell in a Cell" match. Since this is not that match, Kane will win somehow. Possibly a supernaturally-assisted win (teleportation?), but hard to predict when you bring the "dark powers" into the mix.

WWE Championship Six Pack Elimination Challenge: Orton (but not for long). WWE has spent several weeks putting Orton over and I can't see any way he'll lose this. However, if Miz loses to Bryan Miz will regain respect by pulling out the Money In The Bank contract and pinning Orton. This will set up a three-way feud between Orton, Miz and Sheamus that will bring us through football season to Wrestlemania.

Other observations: Why will Cena lose the Six Pack Challenge? Because he will probably move to SMACKDOWN to ensure good ratings when SD moves to SyFy later this year. Being on the SD roster will set up a Wrestlemania match between Undertaker and Cena (which Cena has hinted at on Twitter). Besides he's not doing anything useful on RAW right now.

Women's title unification tightens up the talent in two weak rosters. Naomi from NXT (called "the female Shelton Benjamin") will probably go head-to-head with Melina, and the belt will finally gain some legitimacy.

The Bryan/Miz match and Six Pack matches are connected because it puts the MIB in play. If Miz wins, there's no reason for him to interfere with the Six Pack match so there might be a different outcome there -- Orton wins but Sheamus demands his rematch on Monday Night RAW.

9/16 TNA/The Hardys

Let me start by saying this. I am not going to start fully watching TNA Impact, until Kevin Nash, Sting, or Jeff Jarret is gone. Collectively, they suck. I did catch the last match of the night.
Angle vs Hardy. This was a rematch of their No Surrender match, which I'm hearing was good, but ended due to a cut on Angle's Head? The match was initially a draw at 20 minutes, and Bischoff kept adding on 5 Minutes. So rematch on impact, It's good to see Angle looking and wrestling well. I cant really get behind his whole serious wrestling demeanor. It takes away some of his skill set, and gives him a one-dimensional character. Jeff Hardy has totally stopped working out, his hair is short, slowly turning into Raven. Jeff Is just about a member of the T-shirt brigade.
Aside from the nit-picking, these two can wrestle with the best of them. Though Hardy is being slowed down by his poor fitness. Really good match for TV, and the crowd was into it. The introductions were much better than in the past, TNA has gotten rid of the tunnels, and has more of a Titan tron look to the entrances. The ramp was gone? Thank god. Also, they ran the match well past 11pm. Thats the kind of things fans like. It's a small, unexpected aspect to the show, but encouraging.
Just when the match, is going well, and I'm interested to see who is going to win, double ankle locks. Oh no, Hebner and his son in the ring. Perfectly double-timed 3 count, because both wrestlers backs are on the canvas. Wow, what a shitty ending. But wait, that's not the worst part! During the match, the camera kept panning to Dixie Carter sitting in the front row. Am I really seeing this, a middle aged woman trying to act sincerely interested in the match. Her Facial expression told nothing. I was thinking "what is going on." The whole time she was holding a white IPhone in her hand, looking so unprofessional and stupid. Till the day he dies, you will never see Vince pulling that kind of amateur bullshit.
On Guest commentary for the match was Mr Anderson. He didn't add to much. Why? Because he is not a big star, never will be. TNA will not be able to shape him into a headliner, they cant do it with anybody. Mr. Anderson is not going to put butts in the seats. Suprised, that Taz said the word "asshole" on the air, not something you hear often. Anderson has it written on the back of his tight- A**hole? That is weak, something that belongs in backyard wrestling.
After the show, on Reaction, I did catch some of The Pope, he is good. Great talker. Refreshing to hear someone talk realistically and clearly about wanting to win the World Championship Belt. Couldn't possibly watch any more of that show, with the previews showing backstage interviews with Jarret and Carter. Switch!

Side note, I guess there is some supposed static with Matt Hardy and the WWE right now. Some different rumors going around. Started with talk of Matt being sent home from a show. I sat through one of his YouTube videos addressing the recent rumors. Yup, Matt's taking drugs.

My blog grows silent

I can't even find the energy to blog. That's what having two babies will do to a man. I will be at Ring of Honor at the Hammerstein tomorrow, and I feel that will breath life into the part of my brain that thinks about wrestling. Keep reading and posting...I want to hear the words of the common man. Until then:

Watch Alberto del Rio get knocked da fuck out....
